It is in fact an oleoresin which is secreted from plant Comniphora mukul under the influence of the sunrays in summers and then solidifies in winters which is then harvested for various purposes. It itself exhibits anti- inflammatory , analgesic, anti- microbial, anti dyslipedemic, anti- atherosclerotic, hematopoietic properties. When administered internally it is known to be exhibit carminative, appetizing, diaphoretic, aphrodisiac and emmenogogue properties. Being oleoresin it has property to bind a number of Ayurvedic herbs and Bhasmas together without altering their therapeutic efficacy and safety & that made it obvious choice of Ayuvedic physicians to use it as binding agent to make pills.
